Product Description
Sulphosulfonyl chloride (SOCl₂) is a colorless to pale yellow fuming liquid with a pungent, irritating odor and corrosive properties. It decomposes violently upon contact with water, releasing hydrogen chloride and sulfur dioxide gases. Its boiling point is approximately 75°C at atmospheric pressure. It is highly volatile and fumes when exposed to moist air.
As a vital organic synthesis reagent, it is primarily used to convert carboxylic acids into acyl chlorides (e.g., in pharmaceutical intermediates and pesticide production), and also serves as a dehydrating agent and chlorinating agent. Industrially, it is employed in dye and rubber additive manufacturing, while in laboratories it is frequently used in fine chemical reactions such as peptide synthesis.
