According to the latest customs data, in February 2026, China imported 1.306 million metric tons of raw salt, a year-on-year decrease of 1.7%. The main sources of raw salt imports were: India (1.065 million metric tons, accounting for 81.6%); and Australia (239,000 metric tons, accounting for 18.3%). In February, China exported 70,000 metric tons of raw salt, a year-on-year decrease of 13.3%. The main export destinations were: Japan (47,000 metric tons, accounting for 66.5%); Ghana (7,000 metric tons, accounting for 9.5%); and North Korea (5,000 metric tons, accounting for 7.3%).
From January to February 2026, China imported 2.448 million metric tons of raw salt, a year-on-year decrease of 5.7%. The main sources of raw salt imports were: India (1.912 million metric tons, accounting for 78.1%); Australia: 531,000 metric tons, accounting for 21.7%; Pakistan: 5,000 metric tons, accounting for 0.2%. From January to February, China exported 185,000 metric tons of raw salt, a year-on-year decrease of 10.2%. Major export destinations for raw salt were: Japan: 128,000 metric tons, accounting for 69.0%; South Korea: 17,000 metric tons, accounting for 9.0%; Ghana: 7,000 metric tons, accounting for 3.6%.
